December Newsletter

I started painting oils around this time last year.  I challenged myself to paint small and often and by doing this I have learnt so much.  In a year I have painted so many paintings, loving still lifes, interiors, landscapes, food, flowers and people.  I have learnt something new every time I painted something.  I haven't had any teaching in oil painting but in the middle of the year I did a 5 day workshop with Colley Whisson who taught me so much and helped me with some techniques that took me further.

I have had to become proficient in facing my social media fears and starting my instagram account.   I'm not one to put myself out there too easily but I have enjoyed getting to know how I can do it my way.  The artists and other people on Instagram have been so encouraging and I have found some exhibitions and galleries I would not of heard of otherwise. I recently won the judges choice for Aspire Gallery’s last exhibition of the year.

I have quite a few new paintings that Martin, my husband, has framed so beautifully.  I am so lucky as they add so much to my art and if I was paying to get them framed they would have to be so much more expensive for people to buy.  I hope you enjoy the new pieces and I will keep painting through Summer as I cannot not paint now!.

Enjoy a happy Christmas and thankyou for your support this year, x Kathryn

I love pink and these cherry blossom flowers were so abundant and fresh when I saw them. When you paint flowers like this I like to paint everywhere continuously but the trick is to make areas in shadow and capture the sunshine hitting others
This iconic perfume comes in an equally iconic bottle and label and the smell is to be remembered. It was a staple perfume in most homes in the 70’s where our Mothers and Nanas had a least one bottle of it at all times.
These little flowers are so enchanting and the blues that they come in range from very dark blue to very pale. The little yellow centres are perfect and these little plants grow freely if you let them

New releases - December 2025

Some holiday houses and older homes in Australia still have their beautiful patterned carpet with roses and bouquets of flowers. It gives licence to put many colours in the same room and somehow it all works
Did you ever get to stay in a house by the beach for a holiday and when you think of it, you can remember the smell, things like shell lights and mismatched furniture. Days in the water and nights around the tv or playing board games
This is a dreamy little painting featuring a paper boat and her passenger. There is a string of coloured lights and the sky is full of stars. Not lost at sea but happy floating where the current takes her
I love the colours in this little study of a crumpet on a plate, resting on the simple pattern with the knife adjacent
We have many beautiful little towns around Australia and many have houses that have history all through them. In the furnishings, handmade rugs and things collected over lifetimes
I remember sitting at my Nana’s table shelling peas into a big bowl. It is a lovely job to do before dinner and nice to sit with somebody and shell together. They are even better if you have grown them yourself
This little mid century still life features the eclectic frypan which was and still is a staple appliance in my home. Perfect for a sausage too like in my painting here
Sandwiches are the best and in our family they are looked forward to. How lovely is a little plate of mixed sandwiches. I love this interesting little painting as the subject is not often painted but it was so fun to do
I have to confess this one I wanted to keep for myself. I love the simple clean palette and the subject matter. Who doesn't love a good cake and I love to paint them
